The A70 in Carnwath

The road starts in the Scottish capital Edinburgh and leads in a south-westerly direction via the A720 road , which has been developed with separate lanes, initially to Currie . It continues through the Pentland Hills to Carnwath , where it crosses the A721 road and heads west with it for around 5 km. It then turns to the southwest and crosses the A73 road at Hyndford Bridge. At Happendon, it crosses the M74 motorway at its junction 12 and continues to the west-south-west via Muirkirk and to the junction with the A76 road at Holmhead . The rest of the route follows a westerly direction and leads via Ochiltree and Hillhead to the A77 road, which bypasses the city of Ayr to the east, and finally into the center of Ayr, where it ends.
