Copperhead (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Copperhead was an American rock band that developed from a loose group of musicians in San Francisco from 1970 . The best-known member of the band was guitarist John Cipollina , previously with Quicksilver Messenger Service .

In 1973 their first album Copperhead was released , which was hardly supported by the Columbia record company. The band's second production was even completely rejected by the company and never released. Reasons for this may be the personal problems around Clive Davis , the then President of Columbia, after whose departure the band was completely dropped from the company. Allegedly, the group was involved in a Davis drug scandal. Cipollina denied this. Copperhead then disbanded. Cipollina then played with Terry and the Pirates, Man and finally again for the album Solid Silver with Quicksilver Messenger Service.

Copperhead was considered an excellent live band. The atmosphere of their performances is captured on the 1973 album Copperhead-Live . In 1990 the recording of another concert by the group was released under the name Drunken Irish Setter , recorded on December 16, 1972 in San Francisco with the line-up of John Cipollina, Gary Philippet, Jim McPherson, Hutch Hutchinson and David Weber.
