from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coral Herrera Gómez (born 1977 in Madrid ) is a Spanish feminist writer and communicator known for her criticism of the concept of romantic love and her contributions to queer studies . She lives in Costa Rica .

education

Coral Herrera has a degree in Humanities and Audiovisual Communication from Carlos III University in Madrid . She received her PhD in Humanities and Communication from the same university with a PhD thesis on romantic love in the global north and its relationship to capitalism , patriarchy and democracy . Herrera examined the socio-cultural construction of reality, gender, and romantic love; how the global north constructs emotions through symbols, myths and rituals; and how romantic love maintains capitalism, patriarchy and democracy.

Literary work

After finishing her PhD (and as a result of the 2008 Spanish economic crisis), Gómez moved to Costa Rica. She has published articles in various media such as Pikara Magazine, El País , eldiario.es, and El Ciudadano and has worked on programs such as La Tuerka.

The main theme of her work is the critique of romantic love from a gender and queer perspective. She argues that romance is a product of patriarchy and that it plays a fundamental role in the binary and hierarchical construction of gender inequality. She also argues that there are different ways to experience and understand love, which are more liberating and satisfying than the traditional view.
