CoreExpress modules are complete computer-on-modules (COM). These are highly integrated, small and compact PCs that can be used in an embedded computer board design, similar to an integrated circuit. CoMs integrate processor , memory , graphics and BIOS as well as general I / O interfaces . These interfaces are legacy-free and only use digital buses such as PCI Express , Serial ATA , Ethernet , USB and HD Audio . All signals are available on a high-speed, 220-pin connector. This type is also used with COM Express , but is not electrically compatible with CoreExpress. Although currently available implementations use Intel processors, the specification is open to other CPU-COM solutions as well.

CoreExpress modules are mounted on a carrier board that contains the peripherals required for the respective application. In this way, small, highly specialized embedded computer systems can be built.

The CoreExpress form factor was originally developed by LiPPERT Embedded Computers and standardized in 2010 by the Small Form Factors Special Interest Group ( SFF-SIG ).

The CoreExpress specification is maintained by SFF-SIG and can be downloaded from their website. The current version 2.1 is from February 23, 2010.

The specification defines the module size as 58 mm × 65 mm.
