Core switch
A core switch is a connecting device in computer networks .
Core switches are very powerful switches , the backbone ( backbone ) form a network. These switches have to be very fast and have a very high data throughput , so they no longer carry out any corrections or access controls and leave these to the access or distribution layer switches. In order to prevent failures, core switches are usually designed redundantly.
Examples of core switches are:
- The Cisco Catalyst 4500/6500 Series
- The ProCurve 8200zl series from Hewlett Packard Enterprise
- The T-series from Juniper
- The Nortel 8000 series
