The genus Corilla is the only genus of snails - Family Corillidae from the subordination of terrestrial snails (gastropod). The 12 or so species are geographically restricted to southern India and Sri Lanka.

features

The housings are flat, the 5 to 5.5 turns rolled up almost in one plane. They can be twisted right or left and reach a size of about 30 mm in diameter. The last turn falls sharply off the turn axis and is extremely crooked. The edges are bent and widened. Internally there may be lamellae or plicae. The jaw is almost smooth; only has fine horizontal stripes. In the hermaphroditic genital apparatus, the penis is moderately long. Internally it has a bent edge, the inner wall is provided with numerous, simple knots. An epiphallus is present; this is relatively long and sub-cylindrical. The spermatic duct is long and enters the epiphallus apically or subapically. The penile retractor attaches to the epiphallus a little below the center. The free oviduct and the vagina are relatively long. The stem of the spermathec is long, cylindrical and reaches the albumin gland.

Occurrence, way of life and distribution

The species of the Corillidae family or the Corilla genus are native to southern India and Sri Lanka. Most species are found in Sri Lanka, only one species is native to South India. They occur there in damp forests.

Systematics

The family is consistently placed in the superfamily Plectopyloidea by Schileyko (1999) and Bouchet & Rocroi (2005). The types described so far are listed below. Schileyko (1999) points out that the soft bodies of Corilla humberti (bread), Corilla coletti Sykes and Corilla beddomeae (Hanley) hardly differ. A more recent revision of the genus is still pending.
