Cornelius Pouderoijen

Cornelius Pouderoijen (also Kees Pouderoijen ; * 1950 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch Benedictine monk and specialist in Gregorian chant .

Life

At the age of 19 Pouderoijen joined the Benedictine order in Vaals Abbey and studied philosophy and theology . From 1978 he was in close contact with the Abbey of Solesmes , the research center for Gregorian chant, where he dealt intensively with palaeography , textual criticism , semiology and modality . In professional circles he is considered one of the great specialists for the office . He is co-editor of the two volumes of the Graduale Novum , published in 2011 and 2018 , the semi-official edition of the liturgical chants for the Roman Catholic mass .

Pouderoijen worked as cantor at the abbeys of Vaals and Quarr before he was appointed professor for Gregorian chant and liturgy at the Institute for Organ, Organ Research and Church Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2004. In addition, he was director of the choral schola of the Vienna Hofburgkapelle from 2005 to 2011.

Apart from his teaching activities at the Vienna Music University, Pouderoijen regularly holds seminars and master classes at various universities and centers for Gregorian chant in Europe .
