Coroa Vermelha is a stretch of coast and beach region in the southern Brazilian state of Bahia near the district capital Porto Seguro . In the area there is an Indian reservation of the Pataxó people with a village where handicrafts are sold. In the vicinity of Coroa Vermelha is the “Praia do Descobrimento” (Beach of Discovery), where, according to tradition, the first mass of the conqueror and discoverer Pedro Álvares Cabral was held on April 26, 1500. The name Coroa Vermelha comes from a large coral reef, which is off the coast and has a red-orange color.
