history

Corrymeela Community is a community of people of all ages and Christian traditions who have come together to work together to heal the social, religious and political divisions in Northern Ireland and around the world.

The main concern of the Corrymeela Community is to enable people to get to know each other: Roman Catholic and Protestant people (for example school classes, community groups, ...) are invited to spend a few days together at the Corrymeela Center in Ballycastle, a place on the north coast of Northern Ireland. Corrymeela Center also provides a safe place where people can take refuge.

Today the Corrymeela Community, led by Pádraig Ó Tuama, has 230 members around the world. It has an office in Belfast , the Corrymeela Center in Ballycastle and a retreat center in Knocklayd . Well-known members include founding members Ray Davey and Rev. Dr. John Morrow . Other well-known communities are the Communauté de Grandchamp (Switzerland), Iona Community (Scotland) and Communauté de Taizé (France).
