Niwano Peace Prize

The Niwano Peace Prize is worth the equivalent of 155,000 euros and is awarded annually by a seven-member committee made up of Buddhists, Christians and Muslims.

The initiator of the Tokyo- based Niwano Peace Foundation is the Japanese Nikkyō Niwano , founder of the Buddhist lay movement Rissho Kosei-Kai . Nikkyō Niwano was one of the few non-Christian observers at the Second Vatican Council . His son Nichiko Niwano succeeds him as president of the movement committed to interreligious dialogue .
