Rabbis for Human Rights is an Israeli organization founded in 1988 that describes itself as the "voice of conscience" in Israel. Its members include Reform Jews, Orthodox Jews, Conservative Jews, and students. According to its website, it has "over a hundred rabbis and rabbinical students" in its ranks.

The organization received the Niwano Peace Prize in 2006.

activities

In December 2004, its chairman, Rabbi Arik Ascherman, was indicted by the State of Israel in Jerusalem for actively resisting Palestinian house demolitions with three other activists . RFHR is also opposed to the construction of the Israeli border wall where it cuts through Arab land, divides Arab villages or cuts off agricultural land from its owners. The RFHR achieved partial success when it prevented the wall from dividing the village of Sheikh Sa'ad . ( Israel Today , May 2006).

The chairman Rabbi Arik Ascherman 2003 was still charged because he literally "the police in carrying out their duties," has impeded ( " interfering with police performance of duties on two different occasions in 2003, and the intention to commit acts to prevent police from performing their duties. " ). In March 2005, Aschermann was found guilty, but he was not entered in the Israeli criminal record.

In March 2008, Arik Ascherman was arrested for literally "inciting Palestinians to stand against the police". (" Inciting Palestinians to oppose the police ")

The RFHR offers passive resistance during the annual assaults by Jewish settlers on Palestinians during the olive harvest.

Durban UN Anti-Racism Conference

Rabbi Ascherman and RFHR have raised concerns about the Durban UN Anti-Racism Conference: “That Israel violates human rights is an issue that can be addressed at such a conference. However, the conference must not give the impression that Israel is the only place in the world where something like this happens. "
