Corryocactus ayopayanus is a species of plant in the genus Corryocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the distribution area in the Bolivian province of Ayopaya . A Spanish common name is "Tamakaña".

Corryocactus ayopayanus grows shrubby, is branched from the base and reaches heights of growth of 1 to 1.5 meters. The cylindrical cloudy green shoots have a diameter of 3 to 3.5 centimeters. There are four to five ribs up to 1 centimeter high . The ten to 13 thorns pointing in all directions cannot be divided into central and radial spines. The shortest are up to 0.5 centimeters, the middle 1.5 to 2 centimeters and the longest 3 to 5 centimeters long. Sometimes a central spine up to 5 centimeters long is formed.

The broad, funnel-shaped, salmon-pink to reddish flowers appear at the shoot tips. Are up to 6 inches long and reach a diameter of 7 inches. The spherical, yellowish green fruits are thorny and reach a diameter of about 3 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Corryocactus ayopayanus is widespread in the Bolivian province of Ayopaya at altitudes of around 2700 meters.

It was first described in 1952 by Martín Cárdenas .
