Cosmo Zaloom was a hard pop band from Hanover .

history

In 1993 Andreas Weihs won under the pseudonym "Cosmo Zaloom" with a demo cassette that he had recorded with Jens Krause in Peppermint Park, participating in the Hanover rock competition. Since he didn't want to stand alone on the stage of the Hanoverian pavilion , he asked his long-time friend and drummer Jens Klemp (ex-primaries) whether he had the time and inclination to support him during the performance. Jens Klemp also brought a bass player into the band with Michael Schrader (ex-Hungry Dayz).

Despite fewer rehearsals, the performance was a success and drew Klaus-Peter Matziol, ELOY's bassist , to the band. He was looking for a young band that he could sign for the Interatlantic Tours (IAT) label. A few weeks later the record deal was signed and the band landed - meanwhile supported by former Primaries guitarist Eric Limberg - in the Hanoverian Staccato studios with Rainer Holst to record their first CD "Planet Of My Own". The CD was released by the Essen record label VOICES.

This was followed by a support club tour for the Canadian band "Surrender Dorothy" and a 14-day support tour for ELOY through large halls in Germany.
In the spring of 1996 the second CD "Handland" was released, also by VOICES. As a result, a number of club gigs were played all over Germany. A video for the song "Summertime" was shot - but was not found in the popular music channels.

At the end of 1998 the band went on maternity leave for almost two years. From December 2000, however, another six years of making music followed. In 2002 the self-published CD "Straight From the Sofa" was released.

In 2006 it was time to say goodbye for good. In the Hanoverian FAUST , on Eric's 40th birthday, Cosmo Zaloom played their (probably) last concert.

The name

The name of the band is a symbiosis. "Cosmo" was the name of a ghost in an old black and white film. George "Zaloom" was the name of the producer of the American nonsense film Stone Age Junior .

Both names ended up in a little Moleskine . When Andreas Weihs needed a new name for his project in 1993, coincidence brought both names together.
