Kurt W. Fischer

Kurt W. Fischer (born June 9, 1943 in Baltimore , Maryland , USA ; † March 30, 2020 in Belmont , Massachusetts , USA) was an American sociologist and development theorist.

biography

Kurt W. Fischer acquired in 1971 at Harvard University the academic degree Ph.D. in sociology . He taught at the University of Denver and from 1986 to 2015 at Harvard University, where he was the Charles Bigelow Professor of Education and director of the Mind, Brain, and Education Program at the Harvard Graduate School for Education .

His most important contribution to developmental psychology is the Neo-Piagetian theory of "dynamic skill development" ( dynamic skill theory ).

He was founding president of the International Mind, Brain, and Education Society and founding editor of the journal Mind, Brain, and Education .

Fischer died of unknown causes; the suspicion of an infection with the coronavirus , which was rampant in the USA at the time of his death , could not be confirmed as no smears were taken.
