In 1996 he won the Florence Marathon , 1997 and 1998 the Amsterdam Marathon and 1999 the Turin Marathon . In 1997 and 2001 he took third place at the Rotterdam Marathon.

He was best known to the public, however, through his appearance at the Berlin Marathon 2003. There he was supposed to serve as a train runner for his compatriot and training partner Paul Tergat . However, Korir was able to keep up with his pace to the finish and finished second behind Tergat, who improved Khalid Khannouchi's world record by 43 seconds. In 2004 he also finished second in the London Marathon and third in the Fukuoka Marathon .

In 2006 Korir held the world best performance of the year with his time of 2:06:38 in the Rotterdam Marathon , until it was surpassed by Haile Gebrselassie at the Berlin Marathon, where Korir had to give up after a muscle injury.

In 2008 he came back as third in the Dubai Marathon in 2:08:01.
