cosnova GmbH (until 2004 cosma GmbH) is a German company with its headquarters in Sulzbach (Taunus), which sells the cosmetics brands essence, Catrice and LOV worldwide.

cosnova GmbH was founded in 2001 by Christina Oster-Daum and Javier Gonzáles. In 2012 Mathias Delor followed as the third managing director. Hilko Prahl and Dirk Lauber expanded the management team in 2015 and 2018 respectively.

cosnova GmbH introduced the essence brand in 2002, followed by Catrice (2004) in Germany. The development of international markets began with the establishment of the first cosnova Inc. subsidiary in New York in 2008 . Four years later, the company opened up further sales markets abroad.

The LOV brand was launched in 2016

The three cosmetic brands are sold in over 80 countries, with Germany being one of the main sales markets. In 2017, for the second time, the company achieved the highest market share on the German cosmetics market with 35.1% in volume. In the same year cosnova GmbH recorded a net turnover of 424.9 million euros and was thus 15% above the previous year's result. The cosmetics company employs over 500 people worldwide.

Essence is one of the best-selling brands in the decorative cosmetics sector in Europe.

According to the company, all essence products are not tested on animals.
