The Cottbus Crayfish are an American football club that plays in the Regionalliga Ost.

history

In 1993, following a league game held as a presentation by the Berlin Stars against the Trittau Dukes , the first American football team from Cottbus was founded in July under the umbrella of the university sports club of the BTU Cottbus. Beginning in the fall of 1993, training was started under the direction of Gerry Hogg, who was financed by the NFL for half a year. The first games were played in 1994 as part of the Aufbauliga Ost and in the games of the East Bowl in 1994. This proof of playing ability followed in 1995 the participation in the association league, which ended with second place and promotion to the Oberliga Ost. Two years of Verbandsliga Ost were followed by three years of Oberliga Ost and, at the end of 2000, promotion to the Regionalliga (3rd division).

In the first few years, the “8 May Stadium” on Karl-Marx-Straße was both a training and a match stadium. When construction work began on the new building for the information, communication and media center of the BTU Cottbus, the stadium in the sports center became a venue from 1998, while training operations have had to move to other places and halls ever since.

In 2011, after a perfect season with 10 wins in 10 games , the Cottbus Crayfish achieved promotion to GFL 2 , where they finished their first season after 14 games (11 wins) with second place, tied with the champions, with great success. In the 2013 season, the Crayfish finished 7th in the GFL 2 Nord and thus missed relegation.

Departments

In addition to the men's team, the Cottbus Crayfish consist of an A-youth, B-youth and a flag team for children up to 13 years of age.

Men's

After a perfect season in 2011 in the Regionalliga Ost, the Crayfish played in the GFL 2 Nord in the two following years. In 2012 the Cottbus Crayfish were runner-up in their first season of the GFL 2 and were tied with the champions of the league at the top. The year 2013 did not go as expected, so that a relegation to the Regionalliga Ost took place.
