The Cottbus Children's Musical (CKM) is an ensemble . Most of his productions are world premieres that are written for the ensemble and staged with children and young people as actors. In addition, children and young people up to the age of 18 are trained as solo musical actors and receive basic training in singing, dance and acting.

history

The Cottbus Children's Musical was commissioned by the Cottbus City School Council on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the GDR in 1969 and was initially published under the title “Central Children and Youth Ensemble of the District City of Cottbus”. Existing student formations were brought onto the stage. In 1971 the ensemble received a gold medal at the workers' festival in Leipzig with its first children's musical “Sukie sucht alles!”. For the musical “Fricassini” there was a “Special Award for Entertainment Art” in 1976 in the House of the Cheerful Muse in Leipzig. In 1978 the piece “Monster, Garbage and Little Green Men” was created in which the pop singer Bisser Kirow took part.

With the television recording of the musical fairy tale "Murmelsack" in 1986, the CKM set the musical and dramaturgical climax up until then. In 1993, the first CD was "Ready for the Mill". In addition to musicals, the ensemble also performs shows, revues and stage programs. Since the CKM was founded, around 35 musical productions and numerous stage programs have been created.

At the European Youth Musical Festival (EJMF), the CKM received the "German Youth Musical Prize" and other special prizes a total of 18 times between 2006 and 2014.

In 2018 the CKM was awarded the European Youth Musical Prize in Gold for the overall production of the musical "PARADOXA and the broken time" in the Youth Musical category at the European Youth Musical Festival. Janik Oelsch received the award in the "best singer" category for his portrayal of the leading role "James Timeless".
