Coucy (noble family)

Coucy is the family name of a powerful French noble family in Picardy in the Middle Ages , the Lords of Coucy , who had their ancestral seat at Coucy Castle . It includes the following people:

  • Enguerrand I. de Coucy (* approx. 1069, † around 1116/1118) brought the rule of Coucy into his possession by marrying Ada de Marle, the divorced wife of Albéric
  • Thomas de Coucy (also: Thomas de Marle; around 1073-1130), son of Enguerrand I, was a lord (Sire) of Coucy, Boves, La Fère, Vervins, Crépy, Pinon and Marle
  • Enguerrand II. De Coucy (around 1110 – around 1147/49), son of Thomas de Coucy / de Marle
  • Raoul I. de Coucy (* after 1142 - † November 1191), son of Enguerrand II., Lord (Sire) of Coucy, Marle, Vervins, Pinon, Crépy, Crécy and La Fère
  • Enguerrand III. de Coucy (1182 – around 1242), son of Raoul I, lord of the barony of Coucy in Picardy (northern France), builder of the largest castle complex in Europe
  • Raoul II. De Coucy († 1250), son of Enguerrand III., Lord of Coucy, Marle and La Fère
  • Enguerrand IV. De Coucy († 1310), son of Enguerrand III and younger brother of Raoul II.
