Le Coup de Soleil (Eng. «The sunburn») was a cabaret in Lausanne , which was founded in 1940 by Jean Villard (1895–1982, with the pseudonym Giles) and Edith Burger (1906–1948) and during the Second World War as a Place of freedom, the Francophile spirit and the Resistance was known. The cabaret was located in the basement of Rue de la Paix 3. The decorations were created by the illustrator Marcel Vidoudez (1900–1968). Among his guests was Édith Piaf , the interpreter of what is probably his most famous compositionwith the title Les trois cloches ("The three bells", German under the title: When the bells ring brightly), which she sang with the group Les compagnons de la Chanson .

The German ambassador of the Nazi regime in Bern , Otto Carl Köcher , regarded Jean Villard as "Germany's No. 1 enemy in Switzerland":

“L'esprit frondeur et antitotalitaire qui crépite au Coup du Soleil n'échappe pas aux nazis. Leur ambassadeur à Berne désignera ainsi Jean Villard-Gilles comme "l'ennemi No 1 de l'Allemagne en Suisse". "

1947 published anthology of songs from the cabaret. Edith Burger died in 1948.
