Chimney of the Bayer plant in Brunsbüttel

The Covestro Industrial Park Brunsbüttel (formerly "Bayer Industriepark Brunsbüttel") is a chemical plant of Covestro AG in Brunsbüttel . The most outstanding building is the 134 meter high chimney.

history

The plant was built in 1973. For this, the village of Ostermoor was leveled, around 1000 people had to be relocated.

With the spin-off of the Bayer MaterialScience division from Bayer AG in 2015, the industrial park was adapted to the name of the company.

location

The plant is located in the east of Brunsbuettel at the mouth of the Kiel Canal into the Elbe . The entire area covers approx. 420 hectares, of which approx. 250 hectares were earmarked for the settlement of further chemical companies. Due to its location, the plant is connected to two ports: the port of Ostermoor on the Kiel Canal and the Elbe port, which can accommodate ships up to 350 m in length and 14.5 m in draft. The ports are used both for the reception of raw materials and for the transport of finished products.

production

Mainly methylenediphenyl diisocyanates for polyurethane foams are produced at the site.
