Ostermoor (Brunsbüttel)

Ostermoor is a district of Brunsbüttel , located at the southern end of the Kiel Canal with industrial plants (including chemicals, refineries) and canal ferry.

history

On April 1, 1934, the parish of Brunsbüttel was dissolved. All of their village communities, village communities and farmers became independent communities / rural communities, including Ostermoor. Until the early 1970s, Ostermoor was an agrarian village.

During World War II , Ostermoor was repeatedly targeted by American and British bombers due to the oil industry.

In 1956, during excavations in the Ostermoors area, houses from the first and second centuries AD were discovered.

On January 1, 1970, it was incorporated into the district of Brunsbüttel. The former parish had an area of ​​185 hectares . Since 1971 the village has been dissolved in the course of extensive industrial settlement (e.g. the Brunsbüttel nuclear power plant and the chemical industry) with the exception of a few residential buildings. Most of the residents moved to the neighboring communities.

Ostermoor is known to many motorists, because until the construction of the high bridge over the Kiel Canal, the canal was crossed by the federal highway 5 using the ferry in Ostermoor. Especially at peak traffic times, this often led to longer waiting times.
