Crab Cake
Crab Cake is an American dish that consists of crab meat and various other foods that can be optionally added, such as: B. breadcrumbs, milk, mayonnaise, eggs, onions and spices. Sometimes ingredients such as red or green peppers or radishes are also added. The dish is then sautéed , baked or grilled before being served. Crab cakes are traditionally associated with the Chesapeake Bay area , particularly Maryland .
The two most common forms of crab cake in Maryland are boardwalk and restaurant . Boardwalk crab cakes are typically breaded and deep-fried. In addition, they are often filled with different ingredients and then served on a hamburger bun. Restaurant crab cakes, on the other hand, which are sometimes also called gourmet crab cakes , are usually not filled and are served on a platter or sandwich. Many restaurants that offer crab cake sell both types.
Any other type of crab meat can also be used, although the meat of the blue crab , whose natural habitat also includes the Chesapeake Bay, is traditionally used and is considered to be the tastiest. In the northwestern Pacific and Northern California, the native Pacific edible crabs ( Metacarcinus magister ) are a popular ingredient.
Crab cakes vary in size. It ranges from that of a small biscuit to that of a hamburger. Sometimes they are also served with tartar sauce, mustard or ketchup.
Maryland Crab Cake is the national dish of the Preakness Stakes .
