Craig Breedlove

Craig Breedlove (born March 23, 1937 ) is an American racing car driver .

Craig Breedlove holds the five-time land speed record and was the first to break the so-called magical limits of 400 mph , 500 mph and 600 mph each time. He used several vehicles with jet engine , all of the name " Spirit of America " contributed. In 2000 he was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame .

Records

5th September 1963 Breedlove reached 408.312 mph (657.114 km / h) on the Bonneville Salt Flats , Utah, making it the holder of the land speed record. Since the vehicle was three-wheeled, the record was only recognized by the FIM .
October 13, 1964 Breedlove reached 468.719 mph (754.330 km / h) on his Spirit of America on the Bonneville Salt Flats, which snatched the land speed record from Art Arfons .
October 15, 1964 Just two days later, Breedlove broke its own record, crossing the 500 mph limit at 526.277 mph (846.861 km / h). Again he drove the Spirit of America on the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. During the record run, the brake parachutes failed, the vehicle had an accident and was unusable. The Spirit of America Sonic 1 was created by the next record season.
November 2, 1965 Breedlove reached 555.485 mph (893.966 km / h) in the Spirit of America Sonic 1 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, which again brought him back the Art Arfons land speed record.
November 15, 1965 Thirteen days later, Breedlove crossed the 600mph mark at 600.842mph (966.961 km / h) in the Spirit of America Sonic 1 on the Bonneville Salt Flats to keep up with Arfons.
