The Craighead of Badentoy (also called Craighead) is not a true four-post stone circle . It is west of Portlethen and the A90 in Aberdeenshire , Scotland .

The four stones, which form a rectangle of 8.9 mx 6.9 m, stand in a raised, walled modern platform and according to lists from the 19th century, the number of stones made from local gneiss and slate was between three and six. The stones are near the axes. All four stones have iron rings near the lower end.

Pseudo stone circles

Such constructs are rare, but they do happen. Another “pseudo stone circle” is near Rosehill in Scotland . One of the Cerrigmarchogion outcrops in Pembrokeshire is also in the shape of a stone circle. In addition, there are false stone circles, which consist of stones set up by the landowners. In 2009, the Holmhead stone circle in Leochel-Cushnie was exposed as a forgery by the landowner.

Nearby is the Cairnwell Ring Cairn .
