Directions to the Forth Road Bridge

The A90 road ( English for 'A90 road') is a trunk road in Scotland that connects Edinburgh with Fraserburgh . It is an important link between the Central Belt and the Dundee , Angus and Aberdeenshire regions .

course

It begins in the center of Edinburgh and leaves the city in a west-northwest direction to cross the Firth of Forth on the Forth Road Bridge . A few kilometers further at Inverkeithing , the A90 will initially be disbanded and seamlessly merged into the M90 motorway . At the end of the M90 east of Perth , the motorway will be downgraded again to the A90. The A90 continues in a north-easterly direction to Dundee, where it bends north and again takes a north-easterly direction after the Forfar bypass . At Stonehaven it reaches the North Sea coast and essentially follows the coastline to Aberdeen . From there, the A90 first runs north, connects Peterhead to the road network in a wide semicircle and finally reaches Fraserburgh on the north coast of Aberdeenshire. In the city center it meets the A98 coming from the south-west , whereby both roads find their end point.

expansion

Between Edinburgh and Aberdeen, the A90 is usually four lanes and tapers to two lanes from Balmedie . In the 2000s, plans were drawn up to expand the A90 to four lanes on an eight-kilometer section north of Balmedie to south of Ellon . In the course of the work, the route is also to be straightened. After the expansion was decided in 2009, the judicial clarification of complaints should continue until 2012. Work, which was planned for two years, began in February 2015. Most recently, a delay in completion was announced until winter 2017/2018.

Further north, the 25 km long A952 offers a direct route towards Fraserburgh, while the A90 runs through Stonehaven and rejoins the A952 south of Fraserburgh.
