Fraserburgh ( Scottish Gaelic : A 'Bhruaich ) is a town in Aberdeenshire , Scotland with 13,100 inhabitants (as of 2010). The city lies on the Moray Firth .
history
The origins of the settlement date back to the 14th century, when the place was still called Faithlie. In 1504, Fraser bought the land from Philorth and began developing the city. The first port was built in 1546. In 1592 Faithlie was renamed Fraserburgh as part of an extension of the town charter. At the end of the 16th century, Fraserburgh had a university, but it only existed for a few years. In 1787, the town's castle was expanded to become the first lighthouse in Scotland ( Kinnaird Head Lighthouse ). In 1865 the city received a railway connection, which contributed to its economic development.
