Balmedie ( Gaelic : Baile Mheadhain ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Aberdeenshire . It is located about eleven kilometers north of Aberdeen and 28 km south-southwest of Peterhead near the North Sea coast. In 2011 Balmedie had 2534 inhabitants. Balmedie has been growing very quickly for several decades. In 1961, only 53 people lived in Balmedie.

Balmedie is on the A90 between Aberdeen and Fraserburgh . At Balmedie, the A90 tapers from four to two lanes. However, there are plans to expand the road to four lanes north of Balmedie for another eight kilometers to the south of Ellon . The North Sea beach of Balmedie is less than a kilometer west of the village. There are still bunkers from the Second World War .
