The A956 road is an A-road in the Scottish council area of Aberdeen . It runs in a north-south direction, with both ends flowing into the A90 ( Edinburgh - Fraserburgh ). While the A90 describes a wide arc around the center of Aberdeen, the A956 runs through the city center and forms one of the main roads there. As early as the 19th century it was one of the most important streets in the city center, on which numerous public buildings, churches and medical facilities were located. Then as now it is an important arterial road .

course

In the north, the A956 begins as a junction from the A90 in the Aberdeen suburb of Bridge of Don . As Ellon Road , it heads south. It crosses the River Don on the listed arched bridge Bridge of Don and reaches Aberdeen as King Street . About one kilometer south of the A978 branches off at a roundabout , which is designed as a bypass of the city center along the University of Aberdeen . The A96 (Aberdeen – Inverness ) and the A9013 end on the A956 at a roundabout near the harbor . She leaves King Street and passes the docks. The road bends in front of the listed Victoria Bridge and crosses the Dee a few hundred meters south. As Wellington Road , the A956 runs through the districts of Aberdeen south of the Dees and finally joins the A90 after a total of twelve kilometers at Charlestown .
