The A96 is a trunk road in Scotland . It starts in Aberdeen city ​​center and ends on the A9 east of Inverness .

The A96 begins in the center of Aberdeen near the port facilities on the Dee . It runs through parts of the city center and exits Aberdeen through the northwest parts of the city and suburbs. It then runs through the rural west of Aberdeenshire and crosses the Don at Inverurie . From there, the course of the A96 largely follows the course of the River Urie to ten kilometers beyond Old Rayne . It is routed around Huntly and previously run for a few hundred meters along with A97 , which reaches the center of Huntly.

To the northwest of Huntly, the road crosses the Deveron and finally reaches the Council Area Moray . In Keith it crosses the Isla and runs a few kilometers together with the A95 . Continuing in a westerly and north-westerly direction, the road crosses the Spey in Fochabers and then runs through the center of Elgin . Two other rivers cross with the Lossie and, beyond Forres , the Findhorn , before the road west of Auldearn reaches the Highland region . Following the south coast of the Moray Firth via Nairn , the A96 ends after a total length of 166 km east of Inverness on the A9.
