Run
The river is formed by the confluence of the Glen Burn and Mill Burn creeks around 2.5 kilometers north of Colpy in a sparsely populated region of Aberdeenshire. Over the entire length of 28 kilometers, its course follows a south-east or south direction. Of Aberdeen to Inverness leading A96 follows the confluence to Inverurie largely the course of Urie, but never crossed it.
The Urie takes on various streams along its course. Its two main tributaries are The Shevock , which opens at Old Rayne, and the Gadie Burn, which flows west of Whiteford . Both are right tributaries. At the southern edge of Inverurie , the Urie joins the Don on the left .
Near the Urie are the mansions Pitcaple Castle and Keith Hall . Near the mouth is the Inverurie bass .
