The Bogie , also Water of Bogie ( Scottish Gaelic Abhainn Bhalgaidh ), is a river in Scotland . It is created by the confluence of several source streams around three kilometers southwest of Rhynie in the Aberdeenshire region . After the bogie initially runs about one kilometer in an easterly direction, it then follows the Strathbogie valley to the northeast or north. The river runs through a sparsely populated landscape and only passes three villages with Rhynie, Gartly and Huntly . A few hundred meters northeast of Huntly it flows into the Deveron , which eventually drains into the Moray Firth .

Its most important tributary is the Kirkney Water , which flows north of Gartly. According to information from the 1880s, the catchment area of the Bogie covers an area of around 23 km in length and 13 km in width, which corresponds to an area of around 300 km 2 . In 1829 the bogie overflowed and caused great damage in Huntly. Local textile companies used its water there, which is described as pure and soft. The A97 follows the bogie for a large part of the run . The A96 crosses south of Huntly .
