Rhynie ( Gaelic : Roinnidh ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Aberdeenshire and the capital of the Parish of the same name . It is about twelve kilometers south of Huntly and 45 kilometers northwest of Aberdeen . The nearest town is Gartly, four kilometers to the northeast . The Bogie Rhynie passes directly to the east . The village has a primary school.
After the village of locally occurring is chert Rhynie Chert named. It is one of the most important fossil-bearing rocks in the Lower Devonian . The fossil plant Rhynia was found in this rock and also named after the village. To the east of Rhynie is the Ardlair stone circle .

Rhynie is located at the junction of the A941 ( Lossiemouth –Rhynie) and the A97 ( Banff - Dinnet ) and is thus connected to the road network via two trunk roads. The village does not have its own train station.
history
The settlement of the region can be traced back to the Bronze Age . For example, a 17 m diameter cairn was found at Bell Knowe at the Water of Bogie . Hillfort Tap o 'Noth is two kilometers to the northwest . Various Pictish symbol stones have been found in Rhynie . Including three stones near the old rectory, two stones near the church and the Craw Stane . They are each listed as Scheduled Monuments .
