Dinnet ( Gaelic : Dùnaidh ) is a village in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is located around 50 kilometers west of Aberdeen and 65 kilometers north of Dundee . The closest towns are Aboyne to the east and Ballater to the west. The Dee runs a few hundred meters south . Dinnet is located at the confluence of the A97 and the A93 and is therefore connected by two trunk roads. The village does not have its own rail connection.
The Muir of Dinnet nature reserve , a birch forest, stretches to the north and west of the village . About 1.5 km southwest is Dinnet House , which was built for the politician Charles Wilson, 1st Baron Nunburnholme in 1890. Like several outbuildings on the spacious property, it is now protected as a category B monument. In 1899 a church was built in Dinnet.
