The Deveron is a river in Scotland . It arises from the confluence of several source streams on the sparsely populated northeastern edge of the Cairngorms at an altitude of 536 m. For the first 19 km, the Deveron follows a predominantly northerly direction, and then turns to the northeast for another 22 km. The Deveron then flows east for 37 kilometers and after eleven kilometers crosses the city of Huntly , where one of the most important tributaries joins the Bogie ; The second follows about five kilometers downstream with the Isla . In Turriff the course turns north and after 19 kilometers the river flows into the Moray Firth between the cities of Banff and Macduff . With a total length of 98 km, the Deveron is the tenth longest river in Scotland.
In 1829 there was a severe flood on the Deveron. The river swelled to around seven meters above its usual level, causing devastation to Huntly. All road bridges downstream of the city were destroyed in this event. With the A96 , A97 and A98 , three trunk roads cross the river.
