course
Directly east of Fochabers, the A98 branches off the A96 coming from Inverness , which at this point turns south-east towards Aberdeen . It follows the coastline of the Moray Firth and passes the towns of Buckie and Portknockie before reaching Cullen . Buckie and Portnockie are accessible via the A942 , which runs right along the coastline and exits from the A98. Continuing eastwards, the A98 reaches Portsoy . Between Portsoy and Banff it takes the A95 coming from the highlands of Moray , crosses the Deveron on the listed Bridge of Banff and reaches Macduff . It continues further inland through a sparsely populated region and describes a wide arc back to the Moray Firth. It ends in the center of Fraserburgh at the end of the A90 .
