It begins as a turn off the A942 in the center of Buckie in the Moray Council Area . As Baron Street , it follows the coastline of the Moray Firth to the east and crosses the mouth of the Burn of Buckie . It reaches the coastal town of Buckpool , and runs as Main Street along the former docks . Finally, the A990 reaches Portgordon , about two kilometers away , the center of which it crosses as Gordon Street and High Street . At the western edge of the village, the A990 bends south and follows this direction for two kilometers to merge with the A98 near the hamlet of Broadley . With a total length of 5.9 km, it connects the named coastal towns on the Moray Firth to the trunk road network.
