Blackburn is a town in the Scottish council area of Aberdeenshire . It is located about ten kilometers southeast of Inverurie and 13 kilometers northwest of central Aberdeen, two kilometers south of the Don . Blackburn is directly connected to the trunk road network by the A96 . The village does not have its own rail connection. While only 387 residents were counted in Blackburn in 1981, the number jumped to 2960 in 2011.
Blackburn had a primary school as early as the 19th century, which in the 1880s had a capacity of 87 students. There was also a Free Church church . As part of the Tire Excavator Sculpture Project , numerous sculptures were created in the area around Blackburn that reflect the history of the region. The name is derived from the 250 m high Tire Excavator Hill , which rises east of the village in the Kirkhill Forest .
