Alves ( Gaelic : An Abhais ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Moray and capital of the Parish of the same name . It is not far from the south bank of the Moray Firth about seven kilometers west of Elgin and 50 kilometers east of Inverness .
The community consists of the main town Alves and the hamlets of Crook of Alves , North Alves , Wester Alves , Alves Wood and New Alves . In 1831 Alves had 945 inhabitants. At this point in time, the village moved further north around the Old Parish Church from 1769 . In 1961 214 and ten years later 207 people were counted in Alves.

The A96 , which connects Inverness with Aberdeen , touches the village and connects it to the trunk road network. In the past, Alves had its own station on the Inverness and Nairn Railway of the Highland Railway . This was closed in the 1960s. Trains on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line pass the station today.
