description

The five-story Tower House is isolated around four kilometers northwest of Longformacus. Cranshaws Castle is believed to date from the mid-16th century, but it could also be around 200 years older. Over the centuries the Tower House has been redesigned and expanded several times, for example in the late 18th and early 19th centuries as well as around 1900 and in the second half of the 20th century. In 1978 the interior was modernized.

The facades of Cranshaws Castle are plastered with Harl . Cream-colored natural stone details made of sandstone are set off. Unusually the edges of the Tower House are rounded. The entrance portal of the asymmetrically constructed one is on the southwest facade. Decorative wrought iron fittings adorn the wooden door. Another portal is on the back of the building. Essentially, twelve-part lattice windows are installed. Only small windows are made up of four or six parts. The building closes with a cantilevered, crenellated battlement. Dormers emerge from the slate-covered gable roof of the perched house.
