Craterosaurus is a little-known dinosaur from the stegosauria group .
So far, only the vertebral arch of a dorsal vertebra is known of this dinosaur , which is characterized by a unique depression. The construction of the vertebral arch suggests that it belongs to the stegosaurs, a more precise determination is not possible. Sometimes Craterosaurus is equated with Regnosaurus , which is also known only through sparse remains , which can probably not be verified without further findings. Because of the scanty remains, Craterosaurus is sometimes considered a nomen dubium .
The fossil was found in Bedfordshire , England and described by Harry Govier Seeley in 1874 . The find is dated to the Aptium (Lower Cretaceous Period ) and is therefore one of the most recent finds of a stegosaur.
