As CREEPYPASTA refers to a mostly fictional 'horror or horror story that the Internet is widespread. The word creepypasta comes from English and was created by combining creepy (scary) and copy and paste , as the stories are passed on by copying.

Creepypastas themes are often buggy or cursed games or computer files, serial killers, insanity, supernatural beings, occult rituals, scientific experiments, lost episodes of well-known series, or mysterious and strange events.

Well-known series, such as the Holders and the SCP series, deal with supernatural objects that have to be maintained through difficult and often life-threatening tasks (Holders series) or, just like unnatural beings, people or even places to be secured (SCP- Line).

Some creepypastas are based on real existing games and television series. The Creepypasta about the Annabelle doll, for example, was filmed as Annabelle and is based on Ed and Lorraine Warren's supposedly real story about a cursed doll. The Warrens had made a name for themselves in the USA as “ haunted researchers ” with lectures and book publications .

Computer games have been developed for some creepypastas . Examples would be Slender - The Eight Pages or its successor Slender - The Arrival ( Slenderman ) or Remember.exe (Ben Drowned).
