Criccieth Castle is a high medieval castle ruin in Criccieth , Wales .

The castle complex is originally Welsh and was built under Llywelyn from Iorwerth . The gatehouse with two protruding semicircular towers is apparently based on English models. In 1283 the castle was conquered and expanded by Edward I of England .
