Criccieth ( Cricieth in Welsh ) is a town on Cardigan Bay in north-west Wales , United Kingdom . The city is now a tourist center that particularly attracts the elderly. Criccieth attractions include the portal tomb by Bachwen and the ruins of Criccieth Castle dating from 1230 and an old chapel now used as an art gallery.
In the Middle Ages , Criccieth was the capital of Cantrefs Eifionydd , as was Dolbenmaen .
The only celebrity the city has spawned is David Lloyd George , who grew up in the nearby village of Llanystumdwy .
