Eifionydd [ əiviˈɔnɨð ] is a region in North West Wales and is now in Gwynedd . It is the south-eastern part of the Llŷn Peninsula as far as Pwllheli and the Afon Erch River near Abererch as the border in the west with Llŷn.

General

Eifionydd was a medieval cantref , it roughly coincided with the kingdom of Dunoding. The name is derived from Eifion , the son of King Dunod and grandson of Cunedda Wledig , the founder of the royal dynasty of Gwynedd. The center was Criccieth , earlier the royal seat was probably in Dolbenmaen . Although Eifionydd no longer has any significance as a political administrative unit, the name is still common for this region. In addition to Abererch, Llangybi and Llanystumdwy , it includes nine other localities.

The Welsh poet Robert Williams Parry (1884–1956) describes in his poem Eifionydd the contrast between rural idyll and urban bustle.
