Crimeware (a portmanteau word of English. Criminal and Software ) is an advanced commercial crime form of malware , the criminological for computer crime counts and legally under Internet fraud is to be settled.

Spread of crimeware

In 2006 in particular, crimeware found its way into the world. This is malware that either malicious programs installed on the hard drive of the infected computer and at worst have incorporated operations , for example by changing the configuration of the computer out of action sets or the boats of on the hard drive stored operating systems by deleting the master boot record makes it impossible ; the computer, which is at least temporarily inoperable, may cause economic damage. Furthermore, for example, keyloggers (in this case at the software level) can spy out bank data or similar confidential data. So-called botnets for sending spam e- mails, for example, and ransomware for blackmailing affected users also belong in this area.

The operators of sites infected with crimeware are often well camouflaged in non-European countries, which makes criminal prosecution difficult or even thwarted.
