The Crippen Rock is a cliff rock off the George V coast in the Australian Antarctic Territory . It belongs to the Mackellar Islands in the Commonwealth Bay and is located immediately northwest of Cape Denison .

Participants of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson discovered him. It is named after one of the sled dogs on the research trip. This in turn was named after the US medic and murderer Hawley Crippen , who was executed on November 23, 1910 for the murder of his wife in Pentonville Prison in London .
