Cristina Damian (born February 6, 1977 in Alba Iulia ) is a Romanian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ). From 2008 to 2015 she was a member of the Hamburg State Opera .

Life

Cristina Damian attended high school for music and art in her hometown of Alba Iulia from 1990 to 1995 . From 1996 she studied singing at the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca . From 2003 to 2004 she completed a master's degree in singing with Gheorghe Roşu , who was a soloist at the Cluj-Napoca Opera . Damian then worked there for four years. From the beginning of the 2008/2009 season, Damian is a permanent member of the ensemble at the Hamburg State Opera. In 2010 she received the Dr. Wilhelm Oberdörffer Prize from the Foundation for the Promotion of the Hamburg State Opera.

Her opera repertoire includes the title role in Carmen , Dorabella from Così fan tutte , Fenena from Nabucco , Rosina from the barber of Seville , Waltraute from the Ring and the trouser role of Cherubino from Figaro's wedding . In the musical My Fair Lady she appeared in the lead role of Eliza Doolittle .
