Cristo Redentor (Tihuatlán)

The Cristo Redentor of Tihuatlán is a 22 meter high statue of Christ in Tihuatlán in the north of the Mexican state of Veracruz . It was modeled on the Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro , but is much smaller and weighs “only” around 750 tons. It was inaugurated on November 3, 2007 after a year and a half of construction.

The total height of the monument made of steel and concrete is 31.5 meters. In its base there is a chapel . The pilgrimage site is located east of Tihuatlán on Vicente Guerrero Street , on a lookout point a good 100 meters above the city. It is visited by thousands of tourists every year. The span of the arms of Christ is 20.5 meters.

The statue was planned from 2006 and realized by the Mexican artist Teodoro Cano Garcia (* 1932) from Papantla together with a team; the team included Lorenzo Rivera, Martha Guerrero, Jesus Alberto Hernandez, Gabriel Pérez Aragón, Eleuterio Sanchez Flores and Guillermo Tena.
