The Crossrail Benelux NV ( VKM : Xrail) is a railway company based in Antwerp, which exclusively carries freight. The company has been owned by the Swiss BLS AG since 2019 .

background

The freight transport company Dillen & Le Jeune Cargo (DLC) was founded in April 2000 by the entrepreneurs Ronny Dillen and Jeroen Le Jeune with the participation of Hupac . In October 2007, the founders and majority owners of DLC took over the freight transport business of the financially troubled Babcock & Brown (B&B), which had taken over the Swiss Crossrail AG at the beginning of 2006 . As part of a merger, Crossrail AG was recapitalized and took over all property, plant and equipment from DLC, which changed its name to Crossrail Benelux and henceforth acted as a subsidiary.

The remaining shares of the insolvent and now dissolved B&B were taken over by Jeroen Le Jeune in 2009; In mid-2012 the company had to be recapitalized again. At the end of 2014, Rhenus acquired a majority stake in Crossrail and, after further recapitalization, held 75 percent of the share capital. In mid-2018, the Crossrail Group was split up and the remaining trunk business in Switzerland was sold to the Swiss sister company Cargologic. Crossrail Benelux remained with Rhenus as an independent company again before it was sold to BLS AG or its freight transport subsidiary BLS Cargo in March 2019 - subject to the approval of the competition authorities .
